Over the years, scientists the world over have been coming up with newer applications to use nuclear energy in different fields of life. The most widely known use of nuclear energy is the production of electricity and, already, dozens of countries in the world are successfully using nuclear energy to produce electricity to meet the crucial and ever-growing demand for electricity.In the last few decades, there has arisen a need to limit carbon emissions, due to concerns about climate change. These factors have contributed to a renewed interest in increasing the use of nuclear energy for generating electricity as a sustainable source of clean power generation.
A lot of progress has been made in area of non-power applications of nuclear energy, which has found application in a variety of fields. Notable among them are industry, hydrology, agriculture and food, medicine, art, science, space exploration and cosmology. Today, a host of diverse applications of nuclear energy have become common in several aspects of life. It is expected that in the years to come, such uses will be even more widespread.
