President of France, Mr. François Hollande visited India in the last week of January 2016. During the visit, EDF signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) for setting up six EPR nuclear power reactors at Jaitapur site in Maharashtra. The MoU comes in the wake of French major Areva’s decision to sell its nuclear reactor business to EDF later in the year. This essentially means that EDF will take over the Jaitapur project from Areva. The coming months will be crucial in finalizing the techno-commercial negotiations.
